ELL/ESOL

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

READING ESOL (1+) credit

This unique educational system is designed to help students develop their reading skills so they can quickly reach grade level proficiency. In conjunction with Language Arts, this is part of a balanced literacy approach to teach reading and reading comprehension skills.

ENGLISH II ESOL (1.0) credit

Teaches language development, vocabulary and composition through the study of world literature.

ENGLISH III ESOL (1.0) credit

Provides juniors with instruction and activities which strengthen all the skills of reading, writing and vocabulary through the study of American Literature.

ENGLISH IV ESOL (1.0) credit

This senior course further enhances the students reading and writing skills. It also emphasizes critical thinking and research development through the study of British Literature.

NOTE: Some students may take additional academic courses in sheltered classrooms that provide instruction strictly to ESOL students. The remainder of academic coursework will take place in standard classrooms where teachers have been trained with ESOL strategies.

EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION

READING (1 +) credit

ALGEBRA I-A PARALLEL (1.0) credit

Prerequisite: Exceptional Education placement with

current IEP on file.

ALGEBRA I-B PARALLEL (1.0) credit

See Mathematics. Curriculum follows state standards.

Prerequisite: Exceptional Education placement with

current IEP on file.

 

CAREER PLACEMENT (1-3) credits.

Students will learn employability skills through actual paid employment. Students will be supervised by a Career Placement teacher. May be taken for multiple credits.

LEARNING STRATEGIES (1+) credits

Students will learn skills that enable them to be independent learners and performers. Strategies include test taking, memorization and paragraph writing. Preparation for FCAT is included. May be taken for multiple credits.

current IEP on file.

 

ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING (1-3) credits

Students will learn employability skills at specific training sites through actual work experience, either on or off campus. May be taken for multiple credits.

Prerequisite: Exceptional Education placement with

current IEP on file.

 

SOCIAL PERSONAL SKILLS (1+) credits

Students will learn interpersonal and personal problem solving communication skills, behavioral control, conflict resolution, responsibility, appropriate classroom behaviors, social and personal development. May be taken for multiple credits.
