Evans Community Member,
Benchmark testing runs each day this week through Thursday. Please take a moment to view the schedule under the testing section of the Trojan Express, which will be in effect from Monday through Thursday.
Congratulations to our Evans High School boys basketball team who has placed among the top in the state of Florida! They will be competing this Friday in Lakeland and we wish them the best as they go on to play in the FHSAA Class 7A Final Four vs. Miami's Columbus High School.
The posting window for teachers to put in grades will start on March 7th. Students, please make sure that you turn in all of your assignments on time. Your success over the next nine weeks depends on how hard and diligent you work. The third marking period ends on Thursday, March 14, and March 15 is a teacher workday and student holiday.
Spring break is scheduled for March 18–22. It is a time to engage in activities that bring you delight and rejuvenation, spend time with loved ones, and recharge. Whether it be by unwinding at home, exploring new places, or basking in the sun at the beach, spring break provides an opportunity for all to depart from their customary schedules and return to the remainder of the academic year revitalized and renewed.

The Trojan Teachers and Support Staff of the Month awardees for February were proudly chosen this past week. Not one, but two teachers and a support staff member were honored for their outstanding dedication to education, their desire to see students succeed, and their unfailing support for the whole school community. The Trojans of the Month are very important because they shape the learning environment and make sure that all students have the tools and help they need to do well. |

Evans High School will be honoring its February Trojans of the Month.This month, eight students were chosen as the February Students of the Month. Two students from each grade level were chosen. These students were chosen because they did very well in school, were good leaders, participated in extracurricular activities, and lived up to the school's core values. Being named a Trojan of the Month shows how dedicated, hardworking, and helpful they are to the school.

Black & Gold Day at Evans |
|
Evans High School Community School, Ms. Benefiel and the University of Central Florida (UCF) worked together to put on a fun Black & Gold Day event on Thursday, February 29th during A and B lunch. While students arrived at their prospective lunches, UCF cheerleaders and the school's famous mascot, Nitro greeted them, making the campus feel really festive.
The live DJ was the best part of the event. He played music that got students moving and really feeling like they were in college. Students had a one-of-a-kind chance to experience what it's like to be on a college campus and feel the UCF energy.
When UCF and Evans High School worked together, it was not only fun and exciting for the students, but it also showed what kinds of activities and chances higher education can provide. The students will always remember that day, which encouraged them to aim high and dream big for their future academic pursuits.

1st Annual Resiliency Summit |
|
The Resiliency Summit that was held on Saturday, February 24 at Evans High School was an enormous success! Attending were more than 250 students from 17 high schools, who were treated to presentations by representatives of various organizations, including Disney, One Warrior Yoga, Orange Blossom Health, and others. The occasion emphasized the significance of perseverance and resilience when confronted with obstacles. Students enjoyed a delectable breakfast provided by Taco Bell prior to proceeding to the auditorium, where they listened to motivational lectures. Individualized seminars addressing their mental health concerns followed, which included yoga, art, and the creation of personal mantras. Thank you to Ms. Jennifer Bohn who deserves special recognition for her tireless effort in planning this incredible event.

Elevate Orlando: 15 Years of Transforming Lives! |
|
Elevate Orlando recently celebrated their 15 years of service in working with schools to empower students and instill confidence in their daily lives. With a focus on Title I schools, this nonprofit has been an invaluable partner of Orange County Public Schools, offering support and guidance to kids. Students have been able to develop the self-assurance and abilities needed to succeed in further education through their programs. The good effects Elevate Orlando has had on the community and the lives of children are genuinely admirable, and their efforts are still improving the educational system. Cheers to Elevate Orlando on reaching this significant anniversary!

|
The event “And This is Black History" concluded Black History Month at Evans High School on a memorable note on Thursday, February 29 with a magnificent performance at the performing arts center. Ms. Wright effectively managed and coordinated the production, guaranteeing that every performance delivered was exemplary. Everyone in the audience was astounded by the extraordinary performances of the gospel choir, dance team, choir, and other exceptionally talented individuals. This occasion served as a demonstration of the excellence maintained by Evans High School on its premises and unified the entire school community in observance of this momentous month.

Black History Month Pot Luck |
|
Ms. Wilds, the SGA sponsor, planned a great Black History Month pot luck that took place in the cafeteria on February 28 after school. For the event, staff got together to enjoy and eat tasty meals made by Ms. Nelson-Warren, Dr. Brown, Dr. Delaney, Ms. Hodge, Ms. Moore, Ms. Seward, Ms. Wilds and more. The selection had so many different dishes and tastes that showed off the variety of African American culture. Soul food favorites and sweets were served to everyone who came.
Thank you very much to Ms. Wilds and everyone who brought something to the potluck for making it such a pleasant and tasty event. Coming together at school to eat good food and honor Black History Month was a great way for everyone to spend time together.

Orange County Air Quality Management Slogan Contest Winner |
|
Evans High School student, Myron Divers, has recently made waves by winning a slogan contest for the Orange County air quality management. His winning slogan, "Breathe life into our future act now for Cleaner air", resonated with judges and community members alike for its powerful message advocating for cleaner air and a healthier environment. Myron's creativity and passion for environmental conservation have not gone unnoticed, as his contribution to finding the new slogan has brought awareness to the importance of air quality in our community.
Congratulations to Myron Divers for his impactful achievement and for inspiring others to take action towards a cleaner and greener future.

Evans High School's gifted student Wilberson Labranche recently represented his school at the OCPS speech and debate competition. Both coaches and spectators praised his performance, which was exceptional.
Wilberson demonstrated his remarkable public speaking and debating abilities throughout the event, demonstrating his commitment to the art. Wilberson received praise from a number of coaches for his diligence, forethought, and general performance during the event. His enthusiasm for speech and debate was evident, and his accomplishments bear witness to his dedication to quality work.
Wilberson's speech and debate representation of Evans High School at the OCPS speech and debate event showcases both the school's commitment to developing students' abilities and giving them chances for personal growth. Wilberson Labranche deserves congratulations for his accomplishments and best wishes for future success.

Seniors at Dance Auditions |
|
Since the course began this year, Evans High School's dance team has been making waves and opening up new doors. Seniors had the chance to try out for the Valdosta State University BFA dance program and grants on Monday, February 19. This event not only let them show off their skills, but it also gave them a chance to learn more about dance at the college level.
Similarly, two seniors went to the tryouts for the University of South Florida BFA Dance Program on Friday, February 23rd. This chance put them in touch with a different school and let them think about all the dance careers that could happen in the future.
With the Evans High School dance team, students can not only show off their creative side, but they are also preparing for careers in the dance business. The team is giving everyone participating experiences and chances that are truly priceless. They are setting everyone up for success.

Boys Basketball - Region 1 Class 7A Champs! |
|
Evans High School's basketball team defeated Seminole High School on February 23rd becoming the Region 1 7A winners! The team's diligence, commitment, and fortitude have demonstrated Evans High School's excellence.
Under the direction of their amazing coach, Mr. Morgan, the team has demonstrated exceptional talent and perseverance on the court. Their ability and teamwork are evident in their victory over Seminole High School, an impressive opponent.
This accomplishment is a reflection to the players'skills as well as the encouragement and support they get from their coach and the entire Evans High School community. Best of luck as the basketball team continues to aim for excellence in the state tournament this week, and congratulations on this amazing achievement.

Jermael Paul and Jaylen Clayton, two Trojan senior wrestlers have really made history at Evans High School on the wrestling team during the incredible season. Both seniors were able to participate in the state tournament for the first time in years, demonstrating their abilities and tenacity on the mat. Not only did they participate, but they also did exceptionally well; in the tournament, Evans High School was the top-ranked Orange County public school.
Jermael Paul, a notable wrestler, accomplished a remarkable milestone by emerging as the first state finalist since 1991. Throughout the season, his talent, hard effort, and commitment to the sport were clear, and it culminated in a successful undefeated run at the state level. His accomplishment is evidence of his determination and wrestling skills.
With their accomplishments on the mat, both wrestlers have given Evans High School pride and distinction. Their teammates, coaches, and the entire school have found great inspiration in their dedication to greatness and will to succeed. Congratulations to the two wrestlers for becoming notable figures in the wrestling world and for representing Evans High School with such distinction.

Extended Tutoring for Athletes |
|
Required Extended Tutoring is still occurring for those currently in season who received a D or F on their quarter 3 progress report. Evans is committed to pushing our athletes to excel on and off the court. Those required to attend must do so from 2:40- 3:30 with the individual teacher or in the cafeteria Tuesdays and Thursdays until the next grade report is submitted. Tutoring time must be logged in. Once students complete tutoring at 3:30 they can attend practice/ games. If they do not, they risk being pulled off the field/court.

According to a study conducted by the National Education Association (NEA), the academic performance of students whose parents attend PTSA meetings has improved significantly. Compared to pupils whose parents did not attend PTSA meetings, this group's average GPA increased by 0.5 points, according to the study. In addition, they had a higher rate of attendance and were more likely to graduate on schedule. These statistics emphasize the impact of parental participation in PTSA meetings on student achievement and educational success as a whole.
