As summer draws to a close, we cannot wait to see you on August 10th! Evans High School is recognized for its dedication to excellence and is an atmosphere where outstanding accomplishments are honored. Let's embrace the three pillars of success as we begin a new school year: PRIDE, DETERMINATION, and PERSEVERANCE.
At Evans High School, we are proud of our devoted Trojan faculty members and have highlighted their efforts during pre-planning throughout the community brief. They are the elite educators who will guide and assist you throughout your educational voyage. They have the knowledge, skills, and motivation to foster your growth and development. Together, we will mold your perspective, equip you with indispensable skills, and propel you into a prosperous future.
Throughout the year, we will cultivate an atmosphere in which these values are upheld, enabling each of you to realize your utmost potential. At Evans, we believe there are no limits to what can be accomplished with dedication and effort.
To make your transition back to school smooth and simple, we have organized a special event on August 8th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. called “Walk Your Schedule”, during which you can stroll through your schedules. This will enable you to familiarize yourself with your classrooms, ensuring a successful start to the new school year.
In addition, we would like to notify our juniors and seniors that parking decals will be for sale in the media center on August 8th. Please bring the required documentation and payment of $25 to reserve your parking space.
Students, remember that you hold the key to your own future. Your goals and aspirations are within reach, and through diligence and perseverance, you will unlock boundless opportunities. As you prepare for this thrilling new chapter, we wish you all a safe arrival at school on August 10th.

Students will need the following to apply:
- EHS Student ID
- Vehicle Registration Form (current)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Insurance Card
- Report Card or transcript with GPA (must be 2.0 or higher)
- $25 payment

According to a study conducted by the National Education Association (NEA), the academic performance of students whose parents attend PTSA meetings has improved significantly. Compared to pupils whose parents did not attend PTSA meetings, this group's average GPA increased by 0.5 points, according to the study. In addition, they had a higher rate of attendance and were more likely to graduate on schedule. These statistics emphasize the impact of parental participation in PTSA meetings on student achievement and educational success as a whole.

A student may possess a cell phone on Board property, on school transportation and at school activities, provided that during school hours, the cell phone is silenced and concealed. Pursuant to Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes, “a student may not use a wireless communications device during instructional time, except when expressly directed by a teacher solely for educational purposes. A teacher shall designate an area for wireless communications devices during instructional time.” For purposes of this section, the designated area will be in the student’s backpack, or purse, except when expressly directed by a teacher solely for educational purposes. Violations of the cell phone policy will be handled in accordance with the Code and may result in confiscation of said device. If the cell phone is used in a criminal act (such as sexting as outlined in Florida Statutes and the Code), the cell phone will be provided to law enforcement and the student may face criminal penalties. The use of wireless communication devices are always prohibited during the school day (from the first morning bell to dismissal) unless expressly directed by a teacher solely for educational purposes. Wireless communication devices include but are not limited to, cell phones and/or auxiliary/ancillary devices such as watches and ear buds.
At no time shall OCPS be responsible for theft, loss or damage to cell phones or other electronic devices brought onto its property.
These standards apply to all students in the public schools of Orange County.

New student-athletes, Band members, Dance team members and NJROTC cadets at Evans High School are required to complete a sports physical and an ECG.
The FHSAA sports physical forms and OCPS cardiology forms can be found at www.evansathletics.com. Testing will be held at Evans High School gymnasium on the following date and time:
August 15, 2023 - 4pm to 6pm

On Monday, July 31, our outstanding curriculum resource team provided orientation for the new instructors at Evans High School. The purpose of the orientation was to acquaint these instructors with the school's curriculum and teaching standards, as well as to introduce them to the student-centered culture we foster here. Our curriculum resource team ensured that these teachers understood the significance of individual accountability in their classrooms and provided them with the necessary assistance and direction. We are confident that this orientation has provided these teachers with a solid foundation and equipped them to have a positive and enduring impact on the educational journey of our students. |

Annual Teacher Pre-Planning Week began Wednesday, August 2: |
|
On the first day of pre-planning, our talented band and spirited cheerleaders greeted teachers with a spectacular welcome. Their lively tunes and enthusiastic applause set a positive tone for the upcoming school day, elevating the spirits of everyone who entered the school grounds.
The Student Government Association (SGA) contributed significantly to the morning's atmosphere. They went above and beyond to organize a delicious breakfast that left the instructors wanting more. With an assortment of delectable delights, the SGA ensured that our educators began the day feeling nourished and valued.
The HUB demonstrated its appreciation for teachers' extraordinary efforts by providing them with lunch. As a token of appreciation for their hard work, this act of kindness allowed the staff to gather, unwind, and enjoy a meal together. The lunch was an excellent opportunity for cultivating relationships.

In addition to these warm greetings, the Evans High School administration wished to recognize and reward the exceptional efforts of our instructional staff. Each Administrator also presented a special award to several staff members who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty. These individuals inspire both their students and their pupils with their extraordinary dedication and creativity in the classroom as well as on and off campus.
Beginning the academic year on such a high note has unquestionably inspired our educators to continue having a significant impact on the educational journey of our students. As we begin another successful year at Evans High School, let us not forget the importance of unity and support. Together, we will work to foster a passion of learning and personal development in both students and teachers by fostering an environment conducive to their success.
On the second day of pre-planning, the administrative team went above and beyond to ensure that the breakout sessions for teachers were both informative and beneficial. The purpose of these sessions was to provide teachers with vital insights and resources for the upcoming school year. Our community school and SAFE coordinators discussed the numerous services they provide to staff during one of the sessions. This session highlighted the significance of mental health and the available resources for addressing any challenges our community may face. The "Golden Nuggets" of success presented by Principal Nelson-Warren and Assistant Principal Mr. Truitt was the topic of another session, which provided teachers with essential tips and strategies to excel in their duties. The deans also presented a session on school-wide procedures, ensuring that everyone was familiar with the necessary discipline policies and protocols for a seamless and efficient learning environment. The final sessions emphasized conscious discipline, close reading, planning collaboration, and being prepared for any challenges that may arise during the school year. Overall, the breakout sessions on the second day of pre-planning were a valuable opportunity for our teachers to acquire knowledge, participate in meaningful conversations, and foster a sense of community within our school.

There are exceptional teachers in the field of education who go above and beyond to inspire their students and create distinct learning opportunities. Ms. Thomas, who teaches agriculture at Evans High School, is one such instructor. Ms. Thomas, well-known for her passion and dedication, recently had the opportunity to participate in The Emeril Lagasse Foundation Edible Education Experience, a Seed-To-Table program designed to deepen appreciation for the voyage our food takes from seed to table. |

Ms. Thomas has distinguished herself as one of the top instructors of career and technical education at Evans High School. Her dedication to demonstrating to students the significance of agriculture and its positive impact on their daily lives distinguishes her. Ms. Thomas' comprehensive knowledge and hands-on approach have been instrumental in helping students develop a passion for the subject and valuable life skills. |

The Edible Education Experience, located within College Park, offers educators and students an immersive Seed-To-Table experience. Ms. Thomas had the opportunity to participate in this program, where she joined an enthusiastic team of educators excited to investigate the intricate process of food production.
The Edible Education Experience is centered on a beautiful garden that functions as more than just a kitchen resource. This garden spans over three thousand square feet and is an exquisite example of a complex ecosystem where nature and culinary arts intertwine. Ms. Thomas and her fellow educators were mesmerized by the garden's opportunities for inspiration and education.
The Edible Education Experience believes that food is intricately intertwined with many aspects of our existence. By investigating the garden, Ms. Thomas and her coworkers were able to discover these connections for themselves. They witnessed the effects of sustainable agriculture practices, learned the significance of using seasonal and fresh ingredients, and discovered how food can foster community engagement and cultural comprehension.

The Seed-To-Table voyage at The Edible Education Experience has provided Ms. Thomas with a greater appreciation for the role agriculture plays in our daily lives. Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps |
|
The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) is a program that offers students a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn about the military and gain valuable life experience. Here are some of the positive aspects of joining the NJROTC: |
|
1. Leadership Development - The NJROTC program focuses on developing leadership skills in students. It teaches them how to lead, motivate, and inspire others, which can be beneficial in any career.
2. Physical Fitness - The NJROTC program emphasizes physical fitness and encourages students to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students participate in a variety of physical activities such as running which can help improve their overall health.
3. Scholarship Opportunities - Many NJROTC programs offer scholarship opportunities to students who excel academically, physically and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills. These scholarships can help students pay for college and further their education.
4. Career Preparation - The NJROTC program provides students with an insight into military life and culture, which can be helpful if they're considering a career in the military. Additionally, students learn valuable skills that are transferable to other careers such as teamwork, discipline, and organization.
5. Community Service - The NJROTC program emphasizes community service and encourages students to give back to their community. Students participate in various service projects such as cleaning up local parks, visiting senior centers, and volunteering at local events.

Salute to our #1 Cheerleaders |

The recent National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) camp was a tremendous success for our cheerleading squad. The team displayed exceptional skill and commitment, bringing home numerous honors.
First and foremost, we are pleased to announce that our team won the extremely competitive Top Team Chant category. Their synchronized effort and performance genuinely distinguished them from the competition. In addition, our team was awarded the Most Improved Team Award, which is a testament to their consistent development and perseverance.
Our cheerleaders received a Superior rating in the Team Cheer category, demonstrating their exceptional coordination and precision. Their dedication to excellence was apparent in every aspect of their regimen. In addition, we were delighted to receive the NCA Team Spirit Stick, a symbol of our team's exceptional spirit and sportsmanship.
In addition, we would like to congratulate three of our cheerleaders for meeting the requirements to become All-American Cheer members. This prestigious award recognizes their distinctive skill and commitment to their craft. We could not be more pleased with their achievements!
As the new school year approaches, let us unite to commend and support our extraordinary athletes. When you see members of our cheerleading squad in August, please congratulate them on their remarkable accomplishments. Their diligence and tenacity have exemplified the character of our beloved Trojans!
