BASKETBALL (.5) credit

In this course students will learn the history, rules, and terminology of basketball and apply proper techniques specific to the sport. Students should improve their level of skill and better understand the strategies of basketball. Safety and good sportsmanship are an important part of the course.

 

H.O.P.E. (1.0) credit

An integration of health, life skills, and physical education.

 

CARE & PREVENTION OF ATHLETIC INJURIES (.5) credit

This course provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills relating to the nature, prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries which may be used in recreational pursuits today as well as in later life.

 

FIRST AID (.5) credit

Provides students a continuation of the concepts learned in Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries.

 

INDIVIDUAL/DUAL SPORTS (.5) credit

Content includes knowledge and application of techniques, skills, strategies, rules and safety practices in several sports. Activities may include, but are not limited to: archery, badminton, bowling, golf, handball, tennis, gymnastics, paddleball, racquetball, skating, swimming and table tennis.

 

Soccer (1) credit

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge and skills in soccer and to maintain or improve health-related fitness. Appropriate instructional practices and assessments are used to elicit evidence of student understanding and proficiency of course specific benchmarks related to Cognitive Ability, Movement Competency, Lifetime Fitness, and Responsible Behavior and Values as outlined by the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Physical Education and the Common Core State Standards.

 

TEAM SPORTS I ,II (.5) credit

Content includes knowledge and application of techniques, skills, strategies, rules and safety practices in various team sports. Activities may include, but are not limited to: basketball, flag football, soccer, flickerball, gatorball, softball, speedball, track and field, and volleyball.

 

WEIGHT TRAINING Beg, Int, Adv (.5) credit

These courses provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in weight training including an assessment of muscular strength and endurance as well as a knowledge of health problems associated with inadequate levels of muscular strength, skeletal muscles, sound nutritional practices related to weight training, and consumer issues related to weight training.
