Evans Community Member,
As we enjoy the summer weather and new experiences, I wanted to take a moment to assure you that the Trojan staff are working hard behind the scenes to make the return to school go off without a hitch.
Throughout the summer months, many students are participating in boot camps, summer school, and other educational activities to sharpen your skills and expand your knowledge. These opportunities will undoubtedly contribute to your growth as individuals and set you up for success in the coming academic year.
Meanwhile, our dedicated teachers are gathering for summer common planning sessions, collaborating to create dynamic lesson plans and vibrant learning environments. They are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience when you return in August.
In the final weeks of July, we have some exciting events lined up for you. Laptop checkout will be available, allowing you to collect your devices so you can hit the ground running with technology integration. Freshman will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the school culture at the Trojan Explosion on July 27th. Additionally, we have the "Walk Your Schedule" event scheduled for everyone, where students will have the chance to explore the campus, locate their classrooms, and become familiar with the layout before the first day of school. It's a fantastic opportunity to ease any first-day jitters and start the year feeling confident and prepared.
Lastly, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a safe and enjoyable summer. Whether you're spending time with family, exploring new hobbies, or embarking on adventures near and far, I hope this break brings you joy and rejuvenation.
We are eagerly awaiting your return and cannot wait to welcome you back to our vibrant school community. Remember, each day brings us closer to a successful and rewarding school year. Enjoy the remaining summer days and get ready to make amazing memories together.

New student-athletes, Band members, Dance team members and NJROTC cadets at Evans High School are required to complete a sports physical and an ECG. The FHSAA sports physical forms and OCPS cardiology forms can be found at www.evansathletics.com. Testing will be held at Evans High School gymnasium on the following dates and times:
- June 13, 2023 - 4pm to 6pm
- July 19, 2023 - 4pm to 6pm
- August 15, 2023 - 4pm to 6pm

Evans High School hosted its first annual SAC/PTSA Retreat on July 13th, and it was a great success! The event saw a fantastic turnout of community leaders, parents and students who eagerly participated in the discussions. During the retreat, stakeholders were presented with four important topics that need to be addressed this school year.
The first topic discussed was SAC/PTSA membership. Everyone recognized the importance of increasing membership and brainstormed innovative ideas to attract more parents and guardians to join these influential organizations. The aim is to create a strong network of involved and engaged families, working together for the betterment of the school community.

The second topic focused on enhancing the student sense of belonging. It was unanimously agreed upon that fostering a supportive and inclusive environment is crucial for students' overall growth and success. Strategies such as mentorship programs, clubs, and activities that encourage positive peer relationships were suggested to ensure every student feels valued and connected.
Stakeholder check-ins were addressed as the third topic. The retreat participants emphasized the significance of regular communication and collaboration between all parties involved in the education process. The goal is to ensure that everyone's voices are heard, concerns are addressed promptly, and ideas are shared openly, resulting in a cohesive and harmonious learning environment.

Lastly, positive behavior support was discussed as the fourth topic. It was recognized that promoting positive behaviors among students not only benefits them individually but also contributes to the overall school culture. Ideas such as emphasizing character education, implementing rewards and recognition systems, and providing behavioral support resources were shared, aiming to cultivate a respectful and responsible student body.
Overall, everyone present at the retreat did an incredible job in brainstorming strategies to implement and improve these four important topics throughout the school year. The administrative staff is thrilled and excited about putting these ideas into action. With the dedication and cooperation of all stakeholders, Evans High School is set to have a successful and enriching academic year ahead!

In order to help motivated high school students make the transition from high school to college, our College and Career advisor, Ms. Benefiel and the Upward Bound program took them on a memorable summer trip to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Over the course of a few weeks, these 25 students had the chance to live like college students and learn skills and information that will help them in the future.
The goal of the Upward Bound program, which is paid for by TRIO, is to help and support people from less fortunate families, such as low-income students, first-generation college students, and people with disabilities. This school program helps students get past obstacles and move through the academic pipeline successfully.

During their time at Morehouse College, these hard-working students had a wide range of college experiences that gave them the tools to imagine a better future. On college trips, they were able to check out different buildings and departments, which gave them a taste of the many academic options. Students got a taste of higher education when they talked to professors and had thought-provoking conversations with them. They also learned a lot about different areas of study. |

One of the best things about the program was that students got to work on projects and assignments that tested their ability to think critically and solve problems. Students learned how to work as a team and talk to each other through chances to work together. This helped them get ready for the collaborative nature of college life.
During their free time, the students were also able to learn about Georgia's rich history and sights. Students went on field trips to see baseball games and famous amusement parks like Six Flags, which helped them relax and make memories that will last a lifetime.

The Upward Bound program at Morehouse College not only helped students improve their academic skills, but it also helped them grow as people. By letting these students experience what college is like and giving them a taste of freedom, they were able to gain confidence and a sense of where they wanted to go with their education. |
|
Through programs like Upward Bound, TRIO shows its commitment to giving low-income students more power and improving the playing field in education. By filling in the holes and giving people chances, TRIO is making a big difference in the lives of many people.
Overall, Morehouse College Upward Bound summer program was a huge success. Through college learning experiences, interesting projects, and field trips, these 25 students were given a life-changing chance that will change the way they go to college and achieve success.

Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps |

The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) is a program that offers students a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn about the military and gain valuable life experience. Here are some of the positive aspects of joining the NJROTC: |

1. Leadership Development - The NJROTC program focuses on developing leadership skills in students. It teaches them how to lead, motivate, and inspire others, which can be beneficial in any career.
2. Physical Fitness - The NJROTC program emphasizes physical fitness and encourages students to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students participate in a variety of physical activities such as running which can help improve their overall health.
3. Scholarship Opportunities - Many NJROTC programs offer scholarship opportunities to students who excel academically, physically and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills. These scholarships can help students pay for college and further their education.
4. Career Preparation - The NJROTC program provides students with an insight into military life and culture, which can be helpful if they're considering a career in the military. Additionally, students learn valuable skills that are transferable to other careers such as teamwork, discipline, and organization.
5. Community Service - The NJROTC program emphasizes community service and encourages students to give back to their community. Students participate in various service projects such as cleaning up local parks, visiting senior centers, and volunteering at local events.

Trojan Football Players Ready to Conquer the Season! |
|
As Evans High School gets ready for a successful season, we are excited to share the latest news about our Trojan football team. Under the fine direction of Head Coach Odum, our Trojan football players are working hard and staying strong both on and off the field.
It's great that Coach Odum works so hard to make sure his team works together and has fun. Through his advice and leadership, our student-athletes have become a close-knit family where friendship and helping each other are the most important things. Our young men's lives have changed a lot this summer because they've made strong friendships with people outside of sports. "We will do great things in the next school year because we all work together and care about each other," said Assistant Coach Brown.

Both students and staff can feel how excited the community is. During practice, our Trojan football players have demonstrated a lot of commitment, which has not gone unnoticed. They have shown a lot of enthusiasm and a burning desire to do well, which has given everyone at our school a new sense of fire. With each passing day, people get more and more excited for this upcoming season.
As we start this trip, we want all of our fans to join us in celebrating our Trojans' persevering attitudes. Let's all get behind our team and cheer them on as they face and overcome every task. Get ready for a season that will be full of exciting times and great accomplishments.
