Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.
Progress Reports
Student received their second quarter progress reports on Tuesday, November 19 and I encourage all of our parents to take the time to look over their student's results here at the midpoint of the quarter. At Evans, students who are excelling in their academic studies are taking advantage of the after school-tutoring program made available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If any student's grades are not quite where they could be, please look into this helpful tutoring opportunity.
Thanksgiving Message
At this special time of year, as we all reflect upon what we are thankful for, I want to take time to thank each teacher, staff member, and administrator for their daily dedication towards making Evans High, a place where pride, determination and perseverance are displayed daily. While we recognize the quest for excellence is never ending, we know our path at "Evans" is clearly in the right direction.

All-Florida Choir Member - Javahri Johnson (Class of 2020)
A huge congratulations to Senior, Javahri Johnson, for auditioning and make the Florida Male Honor Choir. He will represent Evans for the state of Florida in Tampa in January.

THE CLASSIC CHOIR CONCERT IS TOMORROW NIGHT HOSTED BY JONES HIGH SCHOOL (NOV. 21)
The Classic Choir concert is Thursday, November 21 hosted by Jones High School. Choirs performing are Jones HS, Evans HS, Memorial MS, Bethune Cookman University as well as other special guests.

New Evans ELL student performs extremely well on the SAT!
Frantz Berthie Supreme Val (not pictured) is one of our "ELL newcomers" from Haiti. She is a senior who arrived in the USA in August 2019 and enrolled at Evans High School on 9/10/2019. She tested as a Non-English Speaker when she entered Evans. She worked on the SAT practice test for 1 to 2 hours every day and on weekends. She just received her score and got a 510 on the Reading (EBRW) and a 520 on the Math. We are so proud of her accomplishments!

Trojan Teacher Spotlight
Mr. Melshaun Randolph, History
Mr. Randolph attended Bethune-Cookman University where he majored in Liberal Studies. He enjoys exercising, yoga, and increasing my skills on the trombone while not teaching World HIstory. He expressed that his favorite part of being a Trojan is "being an example for my team and my students, and the ability to share ideas with each other and what makes us unique." Mr. Randolph has also taken on the role of supporting of Green Machine Marching Band and helps students hone their craft on their individual instruments. We greatly appreciate his passion!

Trojan Staff Spotlight
Ms. Pamela Barnes, Registrar
Ms. Barnes has been working in Education for the past 6 and a half years. When she is not helping families register for entry into Evans High, Ms. Barnes loves to travel, dance, and attend church and bible study. She really enjoys working with parents and sharing the enrollment process for our school.
She takes pride in being a Trojan simply because her husband and children are all graduates of Evans! Her bit of advice to students? "Take education seriously, work hard and complete high school with a diploma."

Rigor in the Classroom Snapshot
Spanish with Ms. Byrne
Ms. Byrne uses Nearpod as an engagement tool to support students as they identify and label the pictures to practice Spanish verbs and sentence construction. Students were able to enter their own sentences underneath the pictures shown, while Ms. Byrne utilized the dashboard of all student responses to examine errors in reasoning and identify exemplars as students practice this skill.

If you look very closely, the students are working along with Ms. Byrne's presentation on the wall from their computers. The Nearpod program she uses allows them to interact and respond instantly as the lesson progresses. A current example of 21st century learning in play at Evans High School!

SPECIAL EVENT: OCPS Hall of Fame Nominee
Mr. Kenard Lang, Evans Alumni (Class of 1993)
Congratulations to our Alumni, Mr. Kenard Lang, who continues his relationship wtih his alma mater through scholarship donations, school visits, and helping our families in need through the Kenard Lang Foundation.
Kenard Lang (Evans High 1993, Robinswood Middle, Hiawassee Elementary), a former NFL defensive end, began his career at Orange County Public Schools, where he was a member of the 1991 Class 5A State Championship football team from Evans High School.
Lang went on to play for the University of Miami and entered the NFL in 1997 as a first-round draft pick of the Washington Redskins. He also played for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos before retiring in 2007.
Lang has continued to give back to the Central Florida community through the Kenard Lang Foundation he formed in 2002, which has provided over $250,000 in scholarships and other community support.
Kenard Lang today and then #90 of the Washington Redskins on the field before a game against the Buffalo Bills at the Redskins Stadium in Landover, Maryland (Nov. 7, 1999).

Continuing Professional Development
At Evans High School ongoing training of our staff is a major strategic objective; not just for our amazing faculty, but for our dedicated support personnel as well.
Our classified staff engaged in their second professional learning for the year and focused on "Creating a Culture of We, Not Me." Staff worked to determine what are behaviors that encourage teamwork and what behaviors should be avoided in order to provide stellar customer service and a positive, collaborative work environment.

Exceptional Service Award
Master Deputy Willie Britton, OCSO
Our School Resource Officer, Master Deputy Willie Britton of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, was just awarded the Exceptional Service Award. He was recognized for his work in the Pine Hills community and with the citizens of Orange County as well as his work in the KNEC Stop the Violence Rally. Deputy Britton is a fixture here on campus, even becoming a mentor on campus.

Bridges to Success Scholarship Program at Valencia - Valencia will hold Bridges application evenings at the West Campus on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:30 on the following dates:

Due April 1, 2020 - Southern Scholarship Foundation provides housing and meals at a very reduced rate at the following universities: FGCU, UF, Santa Fe College, FSU, Flagler College - Tallahassee, FAMU, and TCC. Students must have financial need, a 3.0 minimum GPA, excellent character, and acceptance to the university.

Boys basketball begins their season. Follow all the action as they look to repeat another stellar season!

Girls Weightlifting
Girls weightlifting opened their season with a bang on November 6 with a 65-19 victory over Ocoee. The Lady Trojans won 9 of the 10 weight classes lifting a combined weight of 1,985 lbs. Many of the lifters have begun the season lifting their all-time personal best. Team Captains Alyse Saint Fleur, Khaleisha Bright and Brittney Joseph piloted the team to victory as the each won their respective weight classes: 119 class - Alyse Saint Fleur - 230lbs; 154 class - Brittney Joseph - 310lbs; 169 class - Khaleisha Bright - 230lbs.

Upcoming Winter Sports Season . . .
The cooler temperature ushers in several more Trojan sports with girls and boys basketball participating in preseason tip-off classics, girls and boys soccer opening up their seasons at home and away, and wrestlers eager to hit the mat and show off all of the improvement from their intense work throughout the summer.
