Your Community Brief from Evans High School
Wednesday, December 19, 2018

Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.

In this issue we celebrate several student success stories from the first half of December. I think you will enjoy seeing the variety of activities our Trojans have been engaged in - both inside and outside of the classroom.

What an honor it was for me to watch our incredible performing arts students last week as they dazzled us with their holiday concerts. The hard work and dedication of our performing arts department shined with incredible performances by our band, chorus and orchestra.

I know many of our families will be traveling over the Winter Break beginning next weekend. Even if you are just out and about here in Orange County, please remember to buckle up and drive safely. We want all of our Trojans to have a wonderful, but safe Holiday Season.

Enjoy the Holiday Break!

Mr. Rolando Bailey

Saturday, December 15th

Evans' Trojans came out in full force on Saturday, December 15th to support the distribution of food to over 500 families. We packed bags that included dry goods, baked goods, turkeys, produce and staples that will support community members through the holiday season. Second Harvest Food Bank partnered with 8 schools in Orange County to support family needs which resulted in over 2,500 families receiving food donations overall. Thank you to the sponsors, students, parents, staff, and community members that came to distribute.

Our Trojan volunteers got soaked, danced, and distributed food to 500 families in under 2 hours- Amazing TEAMWORK!

Chorus
Our Choral program was selected to share their voices with the Orange County Retired Educators Association and received a donation towards the program in thanks.

"We had the pleasure of hearing an incredible vocal group from Evans High School!  Their musicianship, presentation, and ability to make a connection with an audience of all ages speaks very highly of your Vocal Program. The level of respect Ms. Wright gave her students was in turn given to the audience.  So much of the lessons she has taught your students go far beyond musicianship. The choir exhibited skills we all admire; the ability to make others listen and enjoy what you present. Thank you so much for all that you do to support this outstanding Vocal Program. Ms. Wright has gone above and beyond by teaching the students respect, musicianship, and then the willingness to share them with others!  We all were so impressed by the politeness and pride exemplified by each student.  They represented their vocal program, their school, and their community very well!  (As an Evans alumni, I was extremely proud of the impression these students left on our group!). Thank you, Mr. Bailey, for helping them be able to share their talents with others. We look forward to hearing other vocal musicians from Evans in the future!"

Our varsity team under the leadership of seniors Andrew Marsielle, Clarence Cummings, Dontaye Adderly, Andy Antoine and junior, Deshaun Osbourne remain undefeated at home! The team's mantra of "brotherhood means playing together and for one another without caring who gets the credit..." is a testament to their success as they have worked to hold their opponents to 34% in field goal shooting. Senior Andy Antoine is averaging 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game.
