Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Monday, July 11, 2022
Evans Community Member,

Welcome to Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement" where our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of Pride, Determination and Perseverance continue to be on display daily by our students, staff and community.

Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships, and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.

We are halfway through the summer and my hope is that you and your family have used the time to rest, relax, and enjoy the company of family and friends! This summer, we have been busy preparing for next school year and helping students recover over 700 semesters of coursework. As we continue to "goal set" for the upcoming year, I would encourage you to begin those discussions with your kids. Consider asking the following questions:

· Looking back on the past year, what are you proud of?

· Looking back on the past year, what do you wish you accomplished, but didn't?

· What did you learn about yourself over the past year that can help you improve as a student and a person?

· How can you self-advocate for yourself this upcoming year?

This is our second summer break issue and it has several important event reminders in it and key dates. Finally, I want to welcome all of our rising 9th-grade Trojans and any other new families to Evans High School. We are very pleased to have you and your child as part of our school community! Have a great weekend (the campus is closed on Fridays over the summer break) and thank you for looking over this latest summer update.

Mr. Bailey

OCPS News
Next Superintendent of Schools announced
Excerpt from the Orlando Sentinel article:
Deputy Superintendent Maria Vazquez, already “at the table” for all important decisions, should be the next leader for Orange County Public Schools, the school board decided Tuesday.

After an hour-long discussion, the Orange County School Board unanimously selected Vazquez as OCPS’ next superintendent, tapping her to replace Barbara Jenkins who is retiring later this year after a decade on the job.

Vazquez, 58, has worked for the district for more than 20 years, as a teacher, principal and administrator. She has been deputy superintendent since 2018.

Food for Thought
1) This one is for any of our Trojans who love animals and have thought about a career as a veterinarian. The US has a veterinarian shortage and it's only likely to get worse. One estimate suggests the US will be short 41,000 vets by 2030.
