Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Thursday, January 20, 2022
Evans Community Member,

Welcome to Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement" where our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of pride, determination and perseverance continue to be on display daily by our students, staff and community.

Please remember that report cards were made available last week, January 12th on Skyward and if you have a student at Evans please review their grades from the 1st semester coupled with the 2nd quarter. Remember that we have tutoring both face to face and virtual for our students each week on Tuesday and Thursday. In the event you would like to schedule a parent conference, our student services team is here to support you and can be reached at 407-522-3400 ex 6232249. Our conferences are virtual for your convenience.

Sunday, January 9th was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. We certainly appreciate our two school resource officers Deputy Britton and Deputy Rohr for their unwavering support with keeping our school safe. Please take a moment to thank our amazing SRO’S.

We received our drop off/ pick up hang tags on Friday, please make sure you visit our school website at evanshs@ocps.net to register your vehicle. The registration link is also here. Please make sure that during arrival and drop off times you enter campus with it clearly visible on your rear view mirror. In the event you have any questions, please contact Mr. Clarence Truitt via e-mail @ Clarence.truiit@ocps.net.

I hope you enjoyed this past Monday holiday honoring Dr. King, Jr.'s many contributions to our country. If not on Monday, then please take a moment this week to reflect upon what he accomplished in the way of civil rights over such a very short period of time. He remains a true inspiration for all Americans.

Mr. Bailey

This Week's Motivational Moment!
Evans High School celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Throughout Martin Luther King's career, he provided many lessons about leadership and success that have broad applicability. Among them:

• Set goals and make a detailed plan of action to reach them — for yourself and your organization.

• Understand your adversary's point of view to recognize the weaknesses of your own positions.

• Never seek to humiliate your opponent; search for common ground.

• Conduct a postmortem analysis of every action to learn from your mistakes.

• When speaking, relate stories of individual acts of courage and sacrifice to help make your cause relevant to the daily lives of those affected.

• Practice what you preach.

• Stay awake to new ideas and have the courage to change.

• Keep fellow leaders focused on priorities.

• Keep followers well-informed.

• Constantly look for alliances, if only on one issue.

• Listen to your critics carefully.
