Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Wednesday, September 22, 2021
Evans Community Member,

Welcome to Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement" where our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of pride, determination and perseverance continue to be on display daily by our students, staff and community.

Congratulations to Ms. Lauren Williams (Biology) for being named EHS Teacher of the Year and Congratulations to Mrs. Rina Santiago (Registrar) for being named EHS Support Person of the Year!! These two wonderful team members were recently recognized for their hard work and commitment by their peers. We are indeed quite fortunate to have them serving here at EHS.

Trojan families, as we are already into our seventh week of the 2021-22 school year, progress reports were published to Skyward on Thursday, September 16th. Progress reports are an excellent way to pulse check student academics. Another great way to monitor is by routinely checking Skyward for updated grades. If you need support with accessing your parent account in Skyward, please reach out to the school by emailing evans_hs@ocps.net

Parents, our open house will be virtual this year. Open House is still a wonderful opportunity to meet the teachers and learn a little bit more about the classes. If you have a student at Evans, I do hope you will participate, as the entire event will be conducted in real-time. On October 12, teachers will have introductory videos discussing their expectations and procedures for academic success for your student this year, starting at 6pm.

Attendance is crucial in providing a student with the highest quality of education. Florida legislators have set the framework of compulsory attendance for our students. As a result, Evans High School will begin the process of notifying you on a bi-weekly basis when your child is in violation of compulsory attendance and tardy to class. These notifications will come to you through school messenger, so please listen to them in their entirety. If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding your child's attendance to school or class, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school.

Mr. Bailey
Principal

Join the Evans SAC
OCPS School Advisory Councils invite stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, staff and community members) to get involved in their school communities to assist the school principal in developing and evaluating the School Improvement Plan. Each SAC is composed of the principal and representatives of teachers; education support employees; parents; community members; and students. The SAC also must be ethnically, racially and economically representative of its community, and high schools must have students as part of their SAC memberships.

The Evans SAC works together to help Evans High School be a shining example of pride, determination and perseverance in Orlando’s Pine Hills community. At Evans SAC meetings, participants learn more about Evans’ academic and extracurricular events; education trends and legislation; School Board and district decisions; and more. We also focus on ways to support teachers and administrators in their efforts to provide the best possible opportunities for our students.

If you are interested in joining the Evans SAC this 2021-22 school year, you are welcome to attend monthly meetings without becoming a voting member.

Become knowledgeable and make your voice heard to help make Evans an even better place of high achievement. You can find the Evans SIP here: https://www.floridacims.org/districts/orange/schools/0671.

Course Spotlight - AVID
AVID was able to bring back our Faculty College Panel for National College Colors Day on Friday, September 3 for our AVID Elective classes. AVID is a college prep program here at Evans that helps students who have a strong desire to attend college learn the strategies and skills needed for advanced coursework required for college entrance. We love that everyone gets involved from our counselors and teachers to the deputies and administrators. They were able to share their college experiences and offer some pearls of wisdom including the reasons behind their college choice and lessons they had learned along the way.
