Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Thursday, June 17, 2021
Evans Community Member,

Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships, and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.

This summer is very busy as students are working through our summer learning experience and team building with the Morehouse or Calculus Project. Reports cards are now available for pickup for students who would like to have a hard copy. Our office hours of operation is 7:30am until 4:30pm daily.

Throughout the summer, it is important to continue to practice skills which were obtained during the year. Since students have their laptops, they have access to sites such as Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org to work on areas that will strengthen knowledge in content areas that will continue when August arrives. Additionally, please find information on the website related to summer learning, which began on June 2. Our second summer learning experience will start on June 25 for students who need to recover grades from 1st semester or 2nd semester.

Remember that the entire 2021/2022 OCPS school year calendar is available online. The most important date for students to keep in mind: Monday, August 10, the 1st day of school for students. See the full calendar here. Please remember to visit our website and the OCPS website this summer for the latest news updates.

About the Coach Pennington Scholarship
Mr. Fred Pennington coached basketball from 1960 - 1976 at Evans High School. He grew from being a basketball and football coach to Evan’s athletic director and then went on to serve as the school’s assistant principal. Before retiring in 1990, Coach Pennington impacted thousands of lives, instilling values and teaching life lessons that helped shape generations of students who are now giving back to today’s students through this scholarship in Coach’s honor.
