Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships, and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.
To the Class of 2021 - Congratulations!
Now is the time to celebrate all that you have accomplished and to thank everyone that helped you along the way as you walk across the Amway stage on Thursday, May 27. All of you have experienced some level of success in academics, the arts, athletics, and service to the community. This is what makes our Trojan Family so strong. I want you to know that the Evans faculty and staff share so much pride in everything you have accomplished.
After you graduate, you will move on to be leaders in your collegiate, military and professional lives. I have unending faith in you today and your successes tomorrow. As always, remember and reflect on those three pillars of Pride, Determination and Perseverance. Have pride in yourself, your work and in your community, be determined to reach your highest level of academic and professional potential as well as know that you can persevere against all obstacles that come your way.

Pictured very top: Trojans Young Men took part in a day of Workshops for a program “The Man Within." During the day of workshops, 20 young Trojans participated in breakout sessions for financial literacy, creating resumes, mock interviews as well as a “lunch and learn” with a mentor. “The Man Within” workshop was sponsored by the Evans High School “Man Up” program. Parents, graduates, and guests, please pay close attention to the message below, as our graduation ceremony will be governed by a mask order. Every attendee must have a mask on while in attendance.
Graduation Message to families:
Evans High School families of our 2021 graduates. We are very excited to celebrate your student’s graduation with an in-person ceremony! Since graduation is approaching quickly, we want to take a moment to share some important information. Our graduation plans were developed in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health in Orange County and the Amway Center. We want to let you know that face masks will still be required for the ceremonies. Every family has been provided 4 seats. We want to see all of our seniors at graduation. We encourage students to continue observing safe practices to help keep everyone safe. Thank you for your support!

Alysha Dorcely is a 4-year member of the IB Program at Evans High School and is ranked as number 8 in our Top Ten. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society, Alysha also was a Spanish Tutor. During her high school tenure at Evans High School, Alysha participated in Sports Media and was also a member of the Lady Trojan Swimming Team.
Her academic achievements are remarkable, however, her volunteerism is equally impressive. As a volunteer at Central Florida Hospital, Alysha strives to make a difference which is also present in her work with St. Andrews Catholic Church Soup Kitchen where she volunteers. Alysha will be attending Florida State University beginning this summer where she will be a member of FSU Care. We are a better Trojan Community because of her dedication.

HOBY Leadership Seminars are highly interactive programs, following our leadership development curriculum which allows students to discover leadership from a personal, group, and socially responsible perspective. |

What is National Police Week? |
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. It is also an opportunity to recognize police officers and deputies like Master Deputy Britton for the fine work they do on behalf of all of us!

Ms. Christine Kozel, Media Center Clerk had the pleasure of reading to our Orange County Head Start Students. The Head Start students enjoyed a trip to the Media Center for storytime. The book, "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein was read with enthusiasm and the students intently listened. After storytime, the Head Start Students were each given their own copy of the book. |

The University of Central Florida has partnered with our Community Partnership School to design a Virtual Reality Workshop for our students. This workshop is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in STEM. This week, Mrs. Oates’s class was able to use VR Headsets to create virtual escape rooms. |

On May 8, 2021, our Girls Track & Field program made history. This was the first time in school history that they won the 4x800, as well as winning two relays (4x400) at the State Championship. Setting two new school records, our Lady Trojans made it no secret that they were the best in the State of Florida by running a phenomenal time of 9:14–ranking them no. 3 in the US. That relay consisted of Senior Amenda Saint-Louis (Bethune Cookman University commit), Senior Jahnile Registre (University of South Carolina signee), returning sophomore Kemaj Moore, and Alisha Boyer. Winning and breaking their most recent school record from the Regional meet just one week prior were Amenda, Jahnile, Kemaj, and returning sophomore Ar’briel Scott; Ranking them no. 6 in the US with a blazing time of 3:46.
This year our girls finished 3rd in the 4A State Championships, with only 7 powerhouses scoring. To add to the great finishes, our 4x100m was 4th place with a time of 47.4 (Delicia Lawrence, Princess Vigilance, Moore and Scott). Vigilance was 6th in the 100m, Scott was 3rd in the 300 hurdles, and Registre was 2nd in the 400.
Senior Omarion Jones North Carolina A&T commit), competed very well all season and finished 4th in the 110h and 7th in the 300h at the State Championships.
These young athletes have had the heart of a Trojan all year, and it showed when it counted most. What a great way to end their tack season during one of the most difficult times in our world! Congrats to your Evans Track & Field team!

Trojan Spring Football Game |
On May 19, the Mighty Trojans toppled the Olympia Titans in the 2021 Spring Football Game. Our Trojans fought hard and never gave up measuring up to the Trojan Pillars of Success - Pride, Determination and Perseverance. Late in the fourth quarter, the determination to continue to fight resulted in a late-in-the-quarter touchdown which put the Trojans ahead of the Titans. The final score was 35-31 resulting in a hard fought win for the Mighty Trojans! |

Congratulations to Coach Slaughter for being selected as the Orange County Public School Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Coach Slaughter is credited with being the leader of the Evans High School Girls Lacrosse team and responsible for the immense success of the 2021 Lady Trojan Lacrosse Team. |

As we close out our 2020-2021 seasons, our athletic coaches would like to say thank you to such a supportive administration. As it hasn’t been the easiest year, you all have helped us get through such trying times together. Special thanks to our Principal, Mr. Bailey for leaving us with no excuses; he made a way for us all! And to our new and legendary Athletic Director, Greg Thompson, thank you for standing in the front line and the gap for our programs this season. We appreciate all that you do!

IBD's 10 Secrets to Success |
Investor's Business Daily is the #2 business paper behind The Wall Street Journal. They have spent years analyzing leaders and successful people in all walks of life. Most have 10 traits that, when combined, can turn dreams into reality.
Two or three times per school year we like to run IBD's Top 10 list as a reminder for all of our Trojans, but this week we do so especially for our Senior Class of 2021 graduating this week!
IBD's list is compiled from the results of thousands of case studies / biographies of what famous and successful people did to get where they are now - from Ben Franklin to George Washington Carver to Mother Theresa to Tom Brady to Martin Luther King, Jr. ... Not simply the rich, but people who truly did extraordinary things with their lives.
1. HOW YOU THINK IS EVERYTHING: Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment. (Put all negative thoughts and worry out of your mind - think positive - be happy!)
2. DECIDE UPON YOUR TRUE DREAMS AND GOALS: Write down you specific goals and develop a plan to reach them. (Clearly identify what you choose in life and focus on it constantly vs. say, setting "New Year's resolutions.")
3. TAKE ACTION: Goals are nothing without action. Don't be afraid to get started now. Just do it. (If it feels right for you, and you truly love it, jump straight into what you choose in life at this moment -- start today.)
4. NEVER STOP LEARNING: Continue with your education or read books. Get training and acquire skills. (Read for pleasure 20-25 minutes per day and take advantage of the fact that OCPS students can access books online.)
5. PERSIST AND WORK HARD: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up. (Focus!)
6. LEARN TO ANALYZE DETAILS: Get all the facts, all the information. Learn from your mistakes. (Also, trust you feelings, especially your first impression, for often this is true for many people.)
7. BUDGET YOUR TIME AND MONEY: Don't let other people or things distract you. (Know your priorities - put them in writing - think about them often - move towards them.)
8. DON'T BE AFRAID TO INNOVATE: Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity. (Move into the greatest vision that you ever had about yourself -- see more in yourself and others than ever before. Don't listen to naysayers.)
9. COMMUNICATE AND DEAL WITH PEOPLE EFFECTIVELY: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others (and hence motivate yourself - see all people as one and have no fear).
10. BE HONEST AND DEPENDABLE, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY: Otherwise, No.'s 1-9 won't matter. (Truth should always be your highest choice.)
