Evans Community Member,

Happy Holidays!

On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff here at Evans High School, I want to wish everyone a joyful holiday season that is filled with love, laughter, and fun!

As we conclude 2020, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Evans High an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most important, our students.

As a reminder, Winter Break runs from Monday, December 21 - Monday, January 4, 2021. Students return on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Our main office will open on January 4.

Holiday Food Giveaway this past Saturday
This year, the Holiday Food Giveaway took place on December 19, 2020 and took on a more intimate feel with our faculty and staff supporting as volunteers to maintain safety procedures. We still had music, dancing and fun while we worked to send out food for 500 families. Even though this year looked a little different, we were still able to serve approximately 1,400 individuals in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank. Here are some great snapshots of the event.

Testing Updates
PSAT/NMSQT
Tuesday, January 26, 2021
College Board will allow all tenth and eleventh grade students the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT on January 26, 2021. This will take the place of the PSAT/NMSQT that had to be canceled in October. If you are a junior, this test will also potentially make you eligible for the National Merit Scholarship. This test is given on paper and students must be on campus to take this test.

Students that have taken Algebra 1, but have not yet passed the Algebra 1 EOC are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT. A Math score of 430 on the PSAT/NMSQT can be used as a concordant score for the Algebra 1 EOC. If you want them to take this test, please indicate your interest before January 20, 2021 by signing up for a room using this link:

Meet New Head Football Coach Lang
The Trojans welcome newly appointed Head Coach, Kenard Lang. Evans High School is proud to welcome home 1993 Evans graduate, Kenard Lang. Coach Lang has been named our Head Football Coach. Along with being a 1991 Evans High state football champion, Kenard went on the star at the University of Miami on a football and baseball scholarship. As a graduate from the University of Miami with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, Kenard was drafted by the NFL, 1ST Round as the Washington Redskins 17th pick in 1997.

Coach Lang has led numerous schools in Orange County to winning records and has supported students with scholarships dollars through the Kenard Lang foundation. We are excited about what Coach Lang will provide to our football team but more important the contributions he will make in their lives beyond the field.
Boys Soccer
The Boys Soccer Team under the leadership of Coach Gerald Tozin and Coach Larousse Charlot continue to experience some early success this season. The team finished the pre-break with a victory over Jones High School with the score of 8 - 0. The game was preceded by recognizing the seniors on the team as part of the Senior Night celebration. The team returns to play on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Oak Ridge High School, with a 6:00 PM start time.
Soccer Senior Nights
Both Girls and Boys Soccer celebrated Senior Nights during the week of December 14th. Congratulations to our Seniors for your leadership on and off the field.
