Your Community Brief from Evans High School
Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020

There has been a lot of reflection on how different and similar this school year has been when compared to previous years. The 1st four years of a principal's tenure is laying the groundwork of how you want to see your school's image and reputation - in the students, community involvement and staff. This time represents growth and maturity that has been instilled from the 1st year freshmen who are now mature seniors and budding adults. The same seniors that are embracing our Pillars of Excellence - Pride, Determination and Perseverance. It was with great honor and humility when the Senior Class of 2021 presented me with a signed petition acknowledging the impact that I have had on their lives. I want to thank, not only the Senior Class, but also all of the MEHS students and staff that motivate and inspire me every day.

This week we celebrated Red Ribbon week and focused on drug prevention with our Trojans. Devoted readers of The Trojan Express have seen wonderful stories of our students engaged in academic successes, serving others in the community, competing in all kinds of sports venues, sharing their talents in art shows, on the stage, in tough music & chorus competitions, and much more. Evans High has amazing students! However, illegal drugs, underage drinking, misuse of prescription drugs and other behaviors along these lines can ruin the successes our students have worked so hard to achieve.

I ask that all parents, opening this edition, kindly invest some time to discuss with their student(s) the importance of staying drug free. We want our Trojans to continue to experience success in all that they do while in high school and post-graduation.

Thank you, and as always GOOOOOO Trojans!

Our senior class put together a truly meaningful surprise for our proud principal, Mr. Bailey. They put together his favorite treats as well as a petition that was signed to declare him best principal of all time. His impact extends beyond the classrooms he leads, with community members and staff echoing the servant leadership he exhibits. We appreciate you Mr. Bailey, but we value you even more!

Meet Mr. Curry, Business

Greetings,

My name is Michael Curry and I am ecstatic about my first year teaching at the great Evans High School. I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida (Pine Hills) and I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters. I graduated high school in 2008 and I am proud to say that I am a product of Evans High School. As a student, I was involved in many clubs but my favorite was being a part of the Green Machine Band. I was an average student and prior to attending Evans I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do after high school. I have my teachers and administration to thank for assisting me with making such a life changing decision. By my senior year I decided to go to college and my teachers and administration made sure to help me anyway they could. Mr. Bailey even wrote a letter of recommendation for me. I was awarded a music scholarship to several colleges and decided to attend Bethune Cookman University.

I have my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and I am currently pursuing my masters in Educational Leadership. Although this is my first year teaching at Evans, I have been working with the band program for the last 2 years. I really enjoy working with this group and look forward to working with both the band and school for many years to come.

For our Trojans: Mr. Curry's advice for our students is to sit down and create a plan for what you want out of life after high school. Create some action steps and don't overwhelm yourself trying to do it all at once.
