Your Community Brief from Evans High School

Speaking at this year's Class of 2020 virtual graduation ceremony.
With summer in full swing, some of our students have begun vacation by working full time, traveling, attending summer school, or just relaxing. I am certain that our Trojans are anxiously waiting perspectives dates from the school, which will provide information on when they can re-start their academic/athletic and performing arts interests as Trojans.

As for me, I'm grateful for the time during the summer, as it provides me an opportunity to reflect, unwind and process for personal and professional improvement. I hope you and your students have that time as well!

I would like the welcome the Class of 2024 to Trojan Territory, 4949 Silver Star Rd. - home of the Trojans! For the Class of 2024, we will start a new tradition called, "The Trojan Charge." This event will introduce our freshmen students to our three pillars of success, Pride, Determination and Perseverance. During this time, workshops will occur with a focus on academics, clubs and athletics, school-wide expectations. More information will be forthcoming regarding the date and time of this event. A promotional video has been provided for you to view https://youtu.be/N3iG6opBSik  Stay tune to our school website, social media and student e-mail.

Students and parents, final report cards for the 19/20 school year are available in the Skyward portfolio. We also sent out official report cards to your on file mailing address.

In his short interview, Javahri shares how excited he is to continue studying music at FSU. He has been in Evan's chorus for the last three years. Pictured above is is the famous James D. Westcott Building on the FSU campus in Tallahassee.

Our Valedictorian, Evon Thompson, is headed to Harvard!! Read more about his journey in this Orlando Sentinel article "Evans High School senior: From Jamaica to Pine Hills to Harvard." We know that Evon is equipped to serve, lead, and create in his post-secondary education and beyond. Congratulations and we look forward to seeing the great things that he accomplishes.

Sports Physicals
To participate in an FHSAA sanctioned sport at Evans High School you must have an up to date high school physical on file with the Athletic Training Staff (middle school physicals do not transfer over).  All physical paperwork is done digitally at AthleticClearance.com There is a new athletic physical process for the 2020-2021 school year. Please make sure you read ALL the directions. It requires a PARENT to create an account and go through all the steps for clearance. Paper copies have been provided at the front office as well. Remember, physicals need to be in 48 hours in advance!

To find the direction on how to complete this online physical process please do the following:
  1. Go to https://evansathletics.com/
  2. Go to the "More" tab - Click on the "Physicals" link under Athletic Training
  3. Open the "Instructions for Submitting a Physical Packet" line
  4. Please read all the directions.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Mrs. Tiffany Edwards, Head Athletic Trainer, at tiffany.edwards@ocps.net

Vital Signs vitalsigns

Once every year, the U.S. Dept. of Labor releases their analysis of the relationship between acquiring an education and the impact on American's chances of being out of work and their average pre-tax weekly paycheck. They recently published their findings for 2019. Once again the pattern repeats itself - those with more education have lower odds of being unemployed and higher weekly earnings.
