Your Community Brief from Evans High School

Our Seniors' official last day is Wednesday, May 13th. However, we will still have numerous events to cover before we can finally close out this year.
Most importantly, all Seniors need to complete all outstanding assignments and end-of-year assessments.
Parents of seniors, please celebrate with your senior this week and in the weeks to come. It was nice to see so many of our seniors wearing their graduation caps and gowns last week, as many parents celebrated with them by taking pictures among other things. While celebrating this week, be creative, cheer them on and post their pictures!
We will miss the traditional Senior walk-out. However, I look forward to seeing the Class of 2020 participating in our Seniors Only Drive-Thru on May 29th from 6pm until 8pm. This event will occur on the Evans High School campus!
Please be reminded that device check-in and material collection will occur beginning Friday, May 15th. Seniors have received e-mails with individual appointment times.
*** Senior Message ***
Seniors, a few parting words of wisdom. For just a moment, take a look around and see the powerful support system you have in your lives. Take a look at those who sacrificed, loved, cared for, and encouraged you the last 18 years.
Now, reflect on the support you have provided at each other. You have spent the last four years experiencing life together. Cherish those moments and cherish your classmates as these moments you will never get back. As you think about what lies ahead, take these points into consideration:
- Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy today, the here, and the now.
- Spend your time doing what you should do. This leaves no room for what you should not do.
- Be the person you thought you would be when you were younger.
- Experience more happiness than drama in your life.
- There is no one single definition of success. Success is for everyone.
- Remember to love learning for the sake of learning and not for the accumulation of points.
- You will have a greater appreciation of your high school experience the older you get.
- Learn to embrace imperfection.
- Understand the difference between a crisis and inconvenience.
- The simplest gift you can give others is your time.
- You will soon grow to value everything your parents or guardians have been telling you the last 18 years. They are much smarter than you think.
- You really don't have to post, tag, tweet, Snapchat, record, or ping every aspect of your life. Put down your phone, look others in the eye, and have a conversation from time to time.
With something to think about, I miss you.

Teacher Appreciation Week '20

Yard signs were made for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8). Members of the administration made special trips to visit our Trojan educators to ensure that they were able to display their pride, determination and perseverance in their neighborhoods!

Trojan Band students learning virtually with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra!
Our very own
Jephthe Belizaire was featured on Spectrum New 13 last week! Jephthe is one of our Trojan Band students who are currently taking virtual lessons through a partnership with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Jephthe did a great job and we could not be more proud of him. This is an awesome opportunity for our students and the Evans HS band program.

Special Recognition
Class of 2020: Jay'la Valentine and Celine Harmond
Jay'la Valentine will graduate in multiple ceremonies this year. Not only is she graduating from Evans High School, but she will also graduate from Valencia with her General Studies AA degree!
|
Celine Harmond was featured in the latest communication from Elevate Orlando, among others in the Class of 2020 spotlight. Elevate says, "Celine is the type of student every teacher dreams of having in class. She is self-motivated, driven, and has a huge heart. Upon graduation, she is taking her talents to Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee, studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing."

Senior Celebrations!

Virtual Graduation
Our Senior students were able to continue social distancing as they picked up their cap and gown to submit their videos for Virtual Graduation last week. We can't wait to see the Class of 2020 on the big screen!

Facebook LIVE
Trojans were treated to a Facebook LIVE event where we revealed our teacher and student superlatives for the Class of 2020. DJ Dean Whiting was on point with the music, recorded by Mr. King, while our MC's Ms. Green, Ms. Varnadore, and Ms. Birdsong kept the event rolling with announcements, live comments and dancing. Congrats to all who were nominated and our winners! We had over 1900 views and 700 comments.

Closing Images for the Week . . .
Every Evans teacher received a special message from a student during Teacher Appreciation Week '20!
Kind words were sent from the heart from our students to our ALL of our teachers in a special video (story above). It is evident that a teacher's impact goes beyond the classroom walls and these students took time out to express their gratitude. Every teacher received an individual message from a student on campus. What a great end to Teacher Appreciation Week!
