Your Community Brief from Evans High School
Monday, March 16, 2020

Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.

Extended Spring Break
With new direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Florida Department of Education announced Friday all state schools will close for one additional week beyond spring break (returning March 30 in Orange County). State testing will also be delayed by two weeks and all extra-curricular activities will be suspended. More details to follow.

Our campus will be closed for normal business functions from March 16th to March 27th. I wish all of the Evans High community a restful spring break. If you are traveling during this time, please be safe and we look forward to our students and faculty returning on Monday, March 30th.

Report Cards
Students and parents, report cards will be distributed on Friday, March 30th during 4th
period. Please take this time to review your student(s) academic performance and pay close attention to their 1st semester GPA as well as cumulative to date GPA. In the event you would like to schedule a conference with your student teachers, please contact our student services office at 407-522-3400 ex 6232249.

Finishing Strong!
Trojans, we are rapidly approaching the conclusion of this school year, which brings end of the year testing. Right now, the focus of students should be on maintaining and improving school life and parents, you can help. Your attention and involvement in this effort will reinforce the importance you place on your child's school experience and have a tremendous positive effect on his/her school life.

1. Talk to your student about his/her social, extra-curricular, and academic realities. High school can be stressful and these conversations will help you both by providing insight and new perspectives. Academics are important, but few of us have memories of those challenges. Instead, we tend to remember high school relationships and social experiences, but life was better during this time if we were confident about grades.

2. Reinforce positive and successful school habits. Attention in class, homework, test preparation, and attendance are key factors.

3. Access and review your student's class progress, attendance, and testing schedules on Parent Portal.

4. Talk to your student about ways to improve school life. You've 'been there/done that', and probably know how you might have improved your experience.

5. Identify and encourage tutoring available at the school.

6. Help your student to increase focus and effort. 'Coasting' is a natural, but an unproductive tendency at the conclusion of the school year. Your involvement is a tremendous positive factor for a successful high school experience. Your interest, willingness, and dedication to helping your child succeed provides an unmistakable message. Your child will thank you for it - someday.

I look forward to seeing everyone back on campus after this extended spring break. Please remember to visit the OCPS website or OCPS Twitter for the latest updates with respect to any further announcements regarding school closure due to COVID-19.

With Trojan Pride,

Rolando Bailey
Principal

Trojan Service Week

March 2nd-March 6th was Trojan Service Week at Evans Community Partnership School. During this week-long event, students, staff and community members were able to participate in a variety of community service projects both on campus and in the community.

Some of the projects that took place during the week were campus beatification, street clean up, singing and playing BINGO at a senior living facility and helping out at the local Boys and Girls Club. On the last day, participants came together to celebrate the week of service through food, music, awards and games.

A BIG Trojan thank you for contributing in some shape or form to make the first ever Trojan Service Week happen and our 6th year of doing service & good in our local community!
