Your Community Brief from Evans High School
Wednesday, February 26, 2020
|
Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.
One can tell a great deal about a people, about a nation, by what it deems important enough to remember. The goal for many during black history month is twofold: to inspire and instill pride of self and community as well as to inspire young African Americans.
As we conclude black history month activities at Evans, I am reminded of this quote, "There is no more powerful force than a people steeped in their history; and there is no higher cause than honoring our struggle and ancestors by remembering."
This week has been marked black history week at Evans and I ask all of our Trojans to participate in the activities that our SGA has planned. Below are the activities for all to enjoy:
Monday - HBCU/ College and University Day Tuesday - Afrocentric Day Wednesday - Pop Culture Day (dress as a celebrity, actor/actress, politician, athlete, or other famous figure currently around) Thursday - Throw Back Day (dress as a famous black historical figure) Friday - Dashiki Day (wear your African attire)
With Trojan Pride,
Rolando Bailey

Unarmed and armed drill teams presenting earlier this month |
Captain Charleese Malone-Hasan was the inspecting official for our annual inspection. Each Cadet was inspected for uniform appearance and overall military bearing. The Cadet officers and staff presented a brief on the health of the program along with aspirations and goals for their individual areas of responsibility.
After the brief, the armed and unarmed drill teams presented a demonstration of routine and precision movements to showcase months of long practices and rehearsals. The teams demonstrated military regulation movements with precision flair to display pride and confidence in their training and execution. Seventy percent of the battalion was present for the inspection displaying Trojan pride and professionalism.
Captain Hasan spent time in a question and answer forum allowing Cadets to ask pointed questions about her journey and her accomplishment. Everyone appeared to be fully engaged and participated eagerly.
