Your Community Brief from Evans High School
Tuesday, October 9, 2018
|
Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.
Last Days of the First Quarter
This is our final regular school week of the
2018-2019 first quarter. Please remember that there is no school for students on Monday, October 15th as teachers finalize first quarter grades. To that end, I encourage all of our Trojans to bring any missing assignments or projects current before the end of the week.
Scholarship Pledge Night
We will hold our 2nd Annual Scholarship Pledge Night at Evans High School on October 12th at 6 pm! The event will take place during our home football game vs. Wekiva. Community members, parents, Evans Alumni and school staff have raised over $25,000 and counting toward scholarships for the graduating class of 2019! These funds allow our students and their families to take care of the things that most scholarships and grants do not traditionally cover such as travel, housing supplies, book, etc. Please join us for this awesome event to hear the final total amount raised by our Trojan supporters! We look forward to seeing you there! Go Trojans!
Report Cards
Parents, student report cards will be issued on October 29th. Report cards will be issued through the students' 7th period classes.
No Early-Release: Wednesday, October 10, 2018
In order for all students participating in SAT School Day (October 10, 2018) to complete their tests without concern for running out of time, all OCPS students will be scheduled for a full school day instead of the normal early-release
With Trojan Pride,
Principal Rolando Bailey

Rigor in the Classroom
Chemistry with Ms. Pelham
Students in Ms. Pelham's chemistry classes are learning about the periodic table. They recently conducted a lab using various chemical compounds to identify periodic trends based on the activity and solubility of alkaline metals. Based on the reaction results, her students were able to identify what an unknown solution contains and where it belongs on the periodic table.

Alumni Spotlight

|
Debriana, Class of 2018
|
Freshly graduated from Evans High School, one alumnus came back to complete observation hours for her course at Valencia College. While on campus, she shared that that through the program of Academy of Information Technology she received 12 college credits!
Debriana was in our AoIT program last year and completed the Administrative Office Specialist program which clearly has provided her with some great perks at the college level!

Closing Images for the Week . . .

Let My People Vote, listen to a panel discussion on the importance of voting, as well as hear a few songs from Mr. John Legend himself!
